On Nuclear Power Freaks

Has anybody ever thought about nuclear power in Malaysia? It’s like taboo in Malaysia (like the sin of close proximity).
I went around and ask…….

Harnessing nuclear energy would bring about destruction to entire peninsular.
We might even sink this country like what the French Government did to Atoll Murora Islands.
Kita patutlah menggunakan nuclear untuk mempertahankan Negara… Really?
We’re not ready.
Nuclear? I don’t want to die……..

Amazingly, that’s what I got.

Government of Malaysia finally makes sense as they would now study alternative energy to keep Malaysia free from volatile crude oil market. It’s high time now for us to purge as much as possible the liquid sin (petrol la…) from this beloved tanah air. I would like to believe the next generation of Proton cars would be powered with LNG or even hybrid model or best of all, diesel cars. I’ll love it when the time comes…….

However, if you have carefully follows our electricity making track record, there are a lot of IPP (independent power producer) in the market supplying electricity to TNB are thermal based. (This means they burn fuel to generate electricity) I am not very sure the scale of reform, whether it would also involve our IPP. But I am sure that once we shift to clean and reliable nuclear fusion, we’ll be able to live comfortably without having to worry petrol price hike.

Living proof? The Republic of France. They have realized how bad crude oil volatility affected them long ago, during the Middle East oil embargo. Since then, they embarked on long effort of cutting their oil dependency. Vehicles are mostly diesel powered. Numerous inventions of smart cars and energy efficient vehicles have taken place. Charles De Gaulle must be really proud of France today. 80 percent of their energy is being supplied by number of civil nuclear reactor. Clean and efficient. On top of everything petrol conservation tax was imposed to cut government subsidies. No more shocking wave from Middle East….. No more petrol black mail…

On the other hand, what happen to United States?
Some countries just never learn. Apparently, they started similar program with France, but once the oil prices dropped to US 20 per barrel, they became greedy monster. They bought tones and tones of oil end up creating huge reserves that would last 3 years shall there is any embargo in future. They just love gas guzzling vehicles. SUV is huge market in United States. I remembered watching CNN while I was in Stellenbosch Worlds 2002, some Good Samaritan in US launch Project Detroit. According to the spokeswoman, it is unpatriotic for US citizens to use SUVs because every cent paid for petrol would necessarily contribute to the terrorist states in Middle East. That is just one way of looking at it…………Come to think about it, shall Saudi Arabia decides to play with the oil tap, the oil prices would go on roller coaster ride again.

Here is the 1 million dollar question: Would Middle East countries go bust, once whole world cut their oil dependency?

I’m looking forward for cool ice lemon tea for Iftaar…..Ice lemon tea anyone?

Another hantu movie: Exorcist, The Beginning

The last time I went to watch horror movie was end of last year with debaters gang (Hafiedz, Adiba, Lynn, Vinay and some other which I don’t remember). The Stairs, if my memory serves me right. That I thought would be last time ever. I was forced to watch it (Hafiedz literally dragged me). Half way through the movie, I shut my eyes and nearly shouted. (There was this horror scene where the ghost appear on the mirror) Then I start diverting my attention like SMSing my friends, contemplating on which stall in uptown selling best Char Kuey Teow and even scratching my ass. It didn’t work. Hafiedz was disgusted when I beg him to leave the cinema. He started to call me chicken and sorts. They just don’t understand. I brush my teeth every single night in the hostel bathroom in front of mirror. I don’t wan.t to imagine or even come across with such creatures while happily doing my routine.

Anyway, today I challenge myself again by watching The Exorcist with Baini, Kam, Emi Fatmawaty, Ayie and Fiza in TGV Bukit Raja. After the first few minutes, I was freezing. I guess that’s the premium you’re paying for extra traumatizing effect while watching horror movie in TGV. I suspect that Kam leaked to Emi that I takut tengok wayang hantu. She attempted to surprise me couple of times throughout the show. Heheh :) , it didn’t work. As I’m pretty convince that Mr. Devil and gang were tied down throughout Ramadan……Some childish part of me……This latest Exorcist apparently is about the origin of the evil spirit before it gets to UK (Somehow explain Father Merrin first encounter such spirit in Kenya). It would help you a lot if you watch the 2 earlier movies of Exorcist (don’t really remember what the girl’s name is) I honestly think it’s worth watching. Not to mention the sensational horror chilly shit you’ll be getting……Tell me what you think about it……

We end up in Bangsar Banana leaf for Iftar dinner. 1 wholesome treats after horrifying movie. Not bad. Ayie actually thank me for bringing him there. Emi plans to bring her dad later next week. Fiza looked as if she was experiencing culture shock while chewing cauliflower goreng tepung. They really need to go out more often….. Aiyoh...How could they even miss the existence of banana leaf eateries?
I guess not everybody has the same sense for good food….

Being the old chap in debate society

Three weeks from now, I’m going to be occupied with a lot of stuff. ACCA exam is coming in no time (December), I have trials in 2 weeks time and on top of everything, I have to struggle for selections to OxBridge IVs and Worlds. I just don’t know.

I felt, our debating society has evolved to the next level. Is that the case? Zero bias selections, run by professional, senior-junior now on par….Really? Nevertheless my junior debaters are really good. At least given the time frame, they are relatively young in debating world and manage to beat a lot of age old seniors. What does that mean? Seniors are going obsolete? We’re lack of effort to improve our selves? Complacency? Or these juniors are gifted with the talents?.....lucky bastards! I just feel that I’m getting old for debates. Wonder how Hafiedz (5-6 years) or Praba(I bet 2004 is his 12th years) or James Bitangga (the last time I heard 9 years) cope with it…..They say old debaters never dies. They just turn out to be lousy adjudicators.
Whatever it is, I’m going to make sure I’m going……..They are going to have a lot of trouble if I don’t go…..because then they would need to know the red tapes in bendahari office and all the messy administrative matters. Some leverage.....
